16- 156.800

And then move to marine o- 156.000

Lifeboat private is ch31- 157.550 ship to station etc

Also have in ch 6- 156.300

and ch 67- 156.375

The last two are used buy Coastguards to work ships and in an emergency
they transfer to either 6 or 67 to keep 16 free.

Not everywhere - down South many of the boats work 0 (156.000) solely and
only monitor 16 of there is a cas on it.

Correct, nationally. RNLI only use 16 to initiate contact with a
vessel. They always talk to the Coastguard and chopper on Ch 0 only.

That's why Ch 0 is left off VHF marine radios, so the Yachties
can't interfere with RNLI operations.

It does seem to be standard RNLI practice, for some reason, to call the CG
on CH16 first rather than directly on CH0, even when they have just launched
in response to a CG request.

They do not exclusively use CH0 to talk to the Coastguard and helicopters,
they will use whatever channel the CG is using to co-ordinate the rescue,
and often switch channels at CG request between CH0 and a 'public' channel.

They will also use CH31 (private marine) to talk to the boathouse or other
lifeboats etc.

Jeff trust me it's not 'standard RNLI' to use 16. I know this because I'm a
crew member who works the radio sometimes!

We use 0 all the time and ONLY use 16 if we need to contact a casualty
vessel. All our comms, including initial calls to coastguard, are on 0. On
the all weather boat we do, however, monitor 16 as well in case someone puts
out a distress call nearby.

Our inshore boat doesn't even MONITOR 16 - you'd have to call them on 0 and
re-direct them if they needed to be on it.

Not all boats are the same - Newhaven Lifeboat for instance do what you say
and call on 16 first. But it's up to the coxswain and it's certainly not
policy to use 16.

Yes, i've heard Newhaven Lifeboat on ch16, i live not far from it.
But i've usually heard it on ch12 talking to Newhaven port control.

Police have gone digital so you won't hear them.

Marine calling and distress channel is 156.8MHz NFM.
Coastguard/lifeboat/chopper private channel is 156.0MHz NFM. Should be
plenty of marine activity in your area.
