Forgive me for what is probably a naive question, but I'd like to listen in
to the referee's conversations with his touch judges at local rugby games.
It used to be possible to pick these up on FM using
Ref!Link, but this is no longer available. I would like to know what
frequency is likely to be used and what equipment (and cost) I'd need to
pick it up, please.

I assume you're in England in which case my answer probably isnt that much
use but....

In Wales there are from what i can tell 2 frequencies designated for this
purpose.

456.3875 is one confirmed use.

Despite 2 years of searching i havent yet managed to find the other one
despite the touch judges speaking into their microphone no more than 2m in
front of me.

Comms on it are sporadic and its worth noting here at least unless its a
televised game ONLY the touch judges have microphones, the referee is
receive only. You get maybe 1-2 second bursts just to say "offside" or more
commonly just double mic click if a throw is straight so its not a high use
system.

The exception are televised games where referees wear a constant carrier WFM
microphone located somewhere around the 860MHz radio microphone band just
about the TV channels.

Your best bet maybe to buy/borrow/steal a frequency counter to snag it - its
something id love to do.

if 456.3875 is one, hardly designated its short term hire, but guees thats the
rubbish the radio supplier told the officials

so you should be looking at all uhf short term hire channels for othere
channel or poss they may of programmed UK general freqs in there as well

but those are not actual radio mic freqs, just radio freqs, radio mics i
beleive will prob be 800-863 200 khz wide fm very low power and i beleivwe
some were found last year at 850/860 mhz

Its used on all WRU equipment and has been for several years, its referee
use for club matches and international coaches during international games
(inversion 1500hz scrambled).
The others appear to be nowhere near it having searched pretty much the
entire band from 440 - 470 in small steps over the last 2 years.

That band is only used for televised matches for referee link.

Most games arent televised so use pmr sets.
